Welcome fellow artists. My name is Grant Allert. I am a performer and voice teacher and MidtownVoice is my new vocal studio.

I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in voice from the University of British Columbia and also have a diploma in Recorded Music Production from the Trebas Institute of Recording Arts. I furthered my studies in opera with programs at the Banff Centre, as well as in Germany, the Czech Republic and the United States. I began my career with Vancouver Opera and have been working with the Canadian Opera Company here in Toronto since 2000. I have been a professional performer for the past 32 years.I am a member of both of Canada’s performer’s unions: ACTRA and CAEA (Equity).

As a teacher/coach/guide I believe that a solid vocal technique is essential regardless of the genre, and while my performance experience is primarily in opera and classical music, I welcome and appreciate students who are interested in varying styles: musical theatre, pop, rock, country, etc. I have found that singer songwriters and composers benefit greatly from voice lessons as it helps them understand how to write for the human voice.

With younger and beginning singers a steady systematic approach is taken to build the voice and technique. With more advanced students, a collaborative approach focusing on student driven goals is often very successful; de-constructing repertoire to address technical issues that are both, general technique points, as well as, areas specific to the individual student. In addition to teaching singers I have also had the opportunity to work with actors and media presenters on healthy voice use.
